The Department of Khairat Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) Farms affiliated to the Agricultural Affairs and Livestock Department of the Al-Kafeel Company, one of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine companies, has announced the success of experimenting with the cultivation and production of two varieties of summer vegetable crops, which are a watermelon type and a popular type of cucumber, which are one of the crops that the Iraqi family needs and the demand for it increases in this season, which contributes to achieving self-sufficiency without relying on the importer.
According to the official of the aforementioned department, Engineer Ali Mazal Laiedh, “The cultivation of this area of the farm came in order to create an integrative case, when the farm originally produces seasonal agricultural crops, especially those that have a direct contact with the life of the citizen. And, praise be to God Almighty, the experiment succeeded and gave Quality and taste positive results. "
He added: "Agriculture was by using modern agricultural mechanisms and methods through plastic houses with open space, at a rate of (2 dounums) for the melon crop and the same for the crop of cucumbers, as modern techniques used in the agricultural terraces lines were used in the form of two lines (parallel lines), In addition to drip irrigation and fertilizing with irrigation and dependence on organic fertilizer instead of chemical, this method is characterized by a very high efficiency in isolation and providing a suitable climate for agriculture, and to suit the Iraqi climate.
“We have relied, as is the case in all the vegetative areas of the farm, on environmentally friendly fertilizer (APM) instead of the chemical, and an integrated fertilizer program that was developed under the supervision of a specialized team that resulted in good results, and reflected positively on the harvest of a crop with Abundance and benefit of high nutritional value. "
He continued: "The al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine has spared no effort to supplement the project with the latest agricultural scientific methods and techniques used in the countries of the world, starting from seeds, greenhouses, watering methods and methods of agricultural pest control to other matters."
At the end of his speech, Laiedh stressed: "After the success of these experiments, one of our future plans - God willing - is to grow other seasonal vegetable crops, such as beans, cowpeas, and other crops that the Iraqi family needs."
