The Karbala procession recalls the martyrdom of Imam al-‘Askari (peace be upon him) at his holy shrine in Samarra.

The Holy Shrine of Imam al-Hadi and Imam al-'Askari (peace be upon both of them) witnessed the influx of many mourning processions commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam al-'Askari (peace be upon him), and among these processions is the Karbala People’s Procession which conducts its mourning activities, in cooperation with the Holy Shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them) represented by the Department of Hussayni rituals and processions.
The head of the department, Haj Riyad Nehme Al-Salman, explained to Al-Kafeel Network: "The two holy shrines provided a number of busses of various capacities, to transport the procession and mourners from the Karbala province to the Imam al-'Askari (p) holy shrine in the city of Samarra."
He continued: "The mourning procession was attended by the Hussayni Karbala'i bodies in addition to a number of the people of the province. The mourners lined up in groups to pay their respects in the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Hadi and Imam al-'Askari (peace be upon them), and recited a number of poems and elegies embodying the depth of the grief with words of sorrow and expressions of sadness, while extending their condolences to the people of the infallibility house (peace be upon them)."
