Departure of the captives of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) from Karbala to Madinah.

It was narrated that the family of the Holy Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) held funerals at the tomb of al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) for three days, and on the fourth day they headed towards Madinah.

They spent three days in Karbala, mourning, weeping and wailing until their voices became hoarse and their hearts crumbled. Imam Zayn al-'Abideen (peace be upon him) feared death for his aunt Zaynab and the rest of the Alawi ladies, so he ordered them to travel to Yathrib, so they left Karbala.

Others said: Then Ali son of al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) ordered to get ready for the travel, which they did. Sakinah called the women to bid farewell to her father’s grave, and wept bitterly, and said:

O Karbala, we have deposited to you a body without a shroud or burial wash

O Karbala, we have deposited to you the soul of Ahmad and the guardian with the trustworthy one.

And it is narrated that it was said to Ali son of al-Hussayn (peace be upon him): Let the women spend more time with their families? He said: O people, you do not see what I see. I fear that my aunt Zaynab will die, as she moves from grave to grave, rolling her forehead on the dust of her brother al-Hussayn, deploring what happened to him.

And when it was said to the lady Zaynab (peace be upon her): Get up, O daughter of the good ones!. She said: To where? They said: To Madinah. She said: And who is left for me in Madinah?

The convoy of the captives of the Ahl al-Bayt (Allah's prayers be upon them) headed to Yathrib [Madinah], and began to find its way around. The eyes of the daughters of the Messenger of God (Allah’s prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) were full with tears as they sobbed and mourned for their dead, recalling their captivity journey and all the oppression they faced after the martyrdom of their beloved ones.

Before the arrival of the captives to Yathrib. Madinah was mourning the death of the Mother of the Faithful; Lady Umm Salamah wife of the Holy Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household), who died a month after the killing of al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) in grief over him.
