The conference was organized by the Center for cataloging and information systems of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, in cooperation with the Departments of information and knowledge technologies at the Universities of Mustansiriya, Basra, and Mosul, under the theme (Leadership in the field of libraries and Archives in the age of technology: challenges and opportunities to preserve heritage and empower knowledge).
The preparatory committee for the conference presented honorary shields to the institutions and centers that participated in organizing it, including the cataloguing and Information Systems Center, the al-Fadl Center for the preservation of the manuscript heritage, in addition to the information and knowledge technologies departments at Mustansiriya University, Basra University and Mosul University.
The closing events included awarding the Shield of excellence to the best thesis of the Departments of information and knowledge technologies in Iraq (2023-2024), the best doctoral thesis at al-Mustansiriya University was awarded to Dr. Ali Al-Hurr Lazem for his title (measuring the effectiveness of storing and retrieving information in databases and its impact on the performance of computer centers in Iraqi public universities), while the best master's thesis at al-Mustansiriya University was by Professor Harith Saadoun Helou for his title (the impact of using digital platforms in the e-learning environment on the professional performance of teachers in information).
As for the University of Basra, professor Yas Khudair Ali received the best master's thesis for his study entitled (The impact of knowledge on job performance: an applied study on human resources in the library of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine), while Professor Fares Juma Hassan from the University of Mosul received the best master's thesis on his title (data mining in university libraries using classification algorithms for beneficiaries).
The first students in the preliminary studies of the Departments of information and knowledge technologies in Iraq for the academic year (2023-2024) were honored from three Iraqi universities, namely, student Suja Hussein Ghali from Mustansiriya University, student Batool Raed Kamel from Basra University, and student Mohammed Ahmed Hassan from Mosul University.
By holding this type of conference, the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine seeks to support the information and knowledge technology departments in Iraqi universities, develop skills, exchange experiences in this field, and encourage researchers to use libraries and enable knowledge.
