A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital announced the success of a complex operation for an elderly lady that restored her limb mobility.
Dr. Khaled al-Sarraj, a specialist in neurosurgery at the hospital, said:"We performed a successful operation on a 75-year-old patient who checked into the hospital suffering from weakness in her four limbs caused by the presence of spinal convexity in the cervical and thoracic vertebrae."
He added that"the convexity led to severe and constant compressions on the spinal cord, which caused great damage to it, so the operation had to be performed to stabilize the vertebrae, repair the convexity and lift the compressions from the spinal cord."
"This type of operation is complicated, especially in the thoracic and cervical region, because it is a sensitive area in terms of the spinal cord and arteries, but thanks to the cumulative experience of the medical team and the development of technologies in the hospital, we succeeded in performing the operation, and the patient regained the movement of her limbs completely and is now in good health,"al-Sarraj said.
