"She is my mother after my mother" a holy word said by the Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and his holy Household) about the venerable Lady Fatima daughter of Asad (peace be upon her). She is the saint mother of the righteous Imams, for whom the wall of Kaaba was opened to let her deliver inside it the guardian of Allah, the wife of the patient oppressed believer of Quraysh Abu Taleb (peace be upon him), and the universe is sad during these days because of this day 23rd of Safar, it is her death anniversary.
She is Fatima Bint Asad son of Hashem son of Abd Manaf, mother of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) and she is the first Hashemi to give birth to a hashemi, she has believed in the Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and his holy Household) since the beginning, after she was following the religion of the prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). She has migrated with the Holy prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and his holy Household) and she was the first women to pledge allegiance when this verse was revealed: {O Prophet! When the believing women (who have professed Islam) come to you to swear allegiance to you – that they will never associate partners with God in any way, and will not steal, and will not commit any illegal sexual intercourse, and will not kill their children, and will not indulge in slander (such as attributing any of their children to other than their own father) that they have willfully devised, and that they will not disobey you in anything that is proper – then accept their allegiance and ask God for their forgiveness. Surely God is All-Forgiving, All-Compassionate.} (60-12) and she fostered the Messenger of Allah (Allah's prayers be upon him and his holy Household).
Mohammad the Holy Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and his holy Household) was deprived of his mother early in life but he soon found a second mother in Fatima bint Asad. He, therefore, did not miss the love and affection that a mother alone can give. When his foster-mother died, he attended the funeral, and said: “May God bless your noble soul. You were to me like my own mother. You fed me while you yourself went hungry. Your aim in doing so was to please God with your deeds.” He gave his own cloak for her shroud, and she was given burial in it. He often said, “I was an orphan and she made me her son. She was the kindest person to me after Abu Talib.”
When the grave was made ready, Mohammad, the Messenger of God, entered it; he lay down in it, and said: “O God! Life and death are in Thy hands. Thou alone will never die. Bless my mother, Fatima bint Asad, and give her a mansion in Heaven. Thou art the Most Merciful.” When Fatima bint Asad was buried, Mohammad Mustafa repeated Allah-o-Akbar (God is Great) forty times, and prayed: “O God! Put her in the Light, and fill her heart with Light.” Mohammad Mustafa was the Executor of the last will and testament of Fatima bint Asad.
When Fatima daughter Asad, mother of Ali (peace be upon them) breathed her last, the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) went weeping to the Holy Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and his holy Household) and said, "My respected mother has expired." The Holy Prophet said, "It is my mother who has expired." There was a wonderful affection in the relation between the Holy Prophet and Fatima Bint Asad. The latter had looked after the former just like a caring and loving mother for quite a long time. At the time of her burial, the Holy Prophet took off his shirt and told people to dress the late Fatima in it. People did so. Then first the Holy Prophet himself lay in that grave for a few moments and prayed for her forgiveness. After the grave was filled up, he stood near it and, after a while, said loudly, "Your son, your son, but not Ja'far and Aqeel." People asked about the reason of doing so. The Holy Prophet replied, "Once I was talking about the rising of the bare-bodied dead on the Day of Resurrection. Fatima Bint Asad came to me weeping and said, 'I wish that you might cloth me in your shirt after I die.' She was very fearful also about the squeeze of the grave. So, before she was buried, I myself slept in her grave for some time and prayed, 'O God! Protect her from the squeeze of the grave.' But the reason of my uttering the words 'Your son..' was that, when the angels asked her about God, she replied, 'Allah', when they asked about the Prophet, she replied, 'Mohammad' but as for Imam she could not give any reply (because this event was much prior to Ghadir-e-Khum when Ali (a.s.) was announced as the Chief of the believers). So I advised Fatima to say, 'Your son (Ali) not Ja' far or Aqeel.'"
She (peace be upon her) died on the twenty third of Safar of the 4th in Medina, and her grave in located in the Baqi' near the graves of her grandchildren the Imams of Baqi' (peace be upon them), Peace be upon her the day she was born, the day she died in peace and the day she will ressuscite with the permission of her Lord.
