"We had a spiritual feeling at the shrine of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) and Sayed sistani is a respected and loved man of high profile, and we understand its paternal role in Iraq for all its denominations, and the extent of his sadness seeing what is happening on the Iraqis, including the Christians..." This was the statement of Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, the American Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and the fifth Archbishop. during his visit of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, along with a christian delegation from Washington DC. After visiting the holy sanctuary and the museum, he went to the hall of honor to meet the High Responsible of the holy shrine; Sayed Ahmed Al-Safi.
The delegation included a group of Catholic and Anglican bishops led by Theodore Cardinal McCarrick, the American Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and the fifth Archbishop, accompanied by William Green Miller the US Ambassador to Ukraine, John Bryson Chane the bishop in the Episcopal Church and the eighth diocesan bishop of Washington and the National Cathedral.
The two sides exchanged talk about overall developments of the region, particularly the recent repercussions of the Takfiri and terrorist gangs, resulting the harm, displacement and killing of the citizens at the hands of this group, which does not have any relation with Islam or Muslims.
Theodore Cardinal McCarrick stated: "First of all I would like to express my gratitude for giving us the opportunity to visit this sacred place, and I assure that Sayed. Al-Sistani is a respected and loved man of very high profile, not only in Iraq but also in the church and by His Holiness the Pope."
Explaining: "We were overwhelmed by great joy having a spiritual feeling as we were honored on the one hand, to visit this sacred place, and on the other hand, to meet with close people from Sayed. Al-sistani. And we hope you will send him our warm greetings and good wishes of safety and wellness. In fact we wished to meet him in this visit, but we understand that he is busy with matters of the country and we appreciate and respect very much his great efforts and his great and influential leader role."
Adding: "When we have met them, the Christians of Iraq of all sects have indicated that they have a great hope in the great person of Sayed Al-Sistani and the good people in this country, despite the problems and pains they have. And we do understand his paternal role of Iraq with its various denominations and the extent of his sadness seeing what is happening on the Iraqis, including the Christians."
For his part, the High Responsible of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine; Sayed. Ahmed Al-Safi stated that the Commander of the Faithful; Imam Ali (peace be upon him) has wrote in a letter to one of his governors telling him: “Know that people are of two types: they are either your brothers in religion or your equals in creation.” (Nahjul Balagha, Letter 53), and both rights, the right of brotherhood and the one of religion are saved, and we are complying to this commandment and we have made it our constitution and approach in dealing with our brothers from other denominations, including Christians.
