For the first time in Iraq, the Indexing and Information Systems Center opens a link for the Iraqi libraries on the IFLA map of the world libraries.

In order to implement the agreements and understandings developed by the Center for Indexing and Information Systems of the Library and House of Manuscripts at the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine with the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and as one of its prominent and influential members, the Center has recently begun to add Iraqi libraries, the academic, public or in the private sector on the IFLA map of the world libraries, thus opening a comprehensive knowledge and information window for libraries within a precise database that will allow the recipient worldwide to see what it contains.

Mr. Hassanein Al-Mousawi, Director of the Indexing and Information Systems Center at the Library of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, briefed us on this project, which is being implemented in Iraq for the first time: "The project comes within a series of projects adopted by the library and House of Manuscripts at the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, believing in the necessity of introducing what is in the Iraqi libraries that are full of important books and sources that are largely overlooked, as a result of not being classified and archived within the database of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions "IFLA", the main international body that deals with libraries and information services and their users, which is the international voice of the library and information profession. "

He added: "This project aims at enhancing the means of cooperation between libraries in Iraq on the one hand and on the other between them and their counterparts in the world and contributing to upgrading the services provided to libraries, professionals and researchers to provide accurate data and information for the Iraqi library sector, and to support the development and planning process for its decision-makers, and to introduce them at the level of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. "

Al-Mousawi concluded by saying: "We have reached an advanced stage in our work. We have registered many Iraqi libraries, and our contacts are continuing with the rest of the libraries to be entered into the Global Libraries Database. The project is followed by a staff of the Indexing and Information Systems Center, making the Library and House of Manuscripts at the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine the official representative in Iraq for the collection of library data.
