The representative of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine at the IFLA Conference in Athens: The Holy Shrine adopted national projects that contributed to the development of the Iraqi reality for the benefit and service of the society.

Within the activities of the 85th IFLA World Conference on Information and Libraries currently held by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions in the Greek capital Athens, on Saturday evening 23rd Dhu al-Hijjah 1440 AH corresponding to August 24, 2019, a session was held for the Arab delegations participating in the conference, included a speech of the Library and the House of Manuscripts of the Holy Shrine titled: (IFLA and the library of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine. Achievements on the ground), delivered by the Assistant Head of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, Sayed 'Aqeel Abd al-Hussein al-Yasiri, in which he said:

“From the land of Mesopotamia, the Land of the Prophets and the Sacred, Iraq of Civilizations, I bring you my best regards and peace, and I extend my thanks and appreciation to the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and all those in charge of this meeting for this valuable opportunity to be present among our fellow librarians.”

He added: "First, some people may wonder what the name of the library and the House of Manuscripts of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine means. The library is one of the edifices of the institution to which it belongs, namely the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, and that the Holy Shrine is a religious, cultural, scientific, and human institution, emanating from the shrine of al-Abbas son of Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (peace be upon them)."

Sayed al-Yasiri stated: "One of the objectives of the Holy Shrine is to serve the Iraqi society and to seek to establish scientific and cultural centers, universities and journals, and to hold festivals and conferences, in addition to adopting national projects that will promote the Iraqi reality and spread the benefit to our Arab societies in particular and other communities in general. ''

He pointed out: "The Library and the House of Manuscripts of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine is a clear evidence for the adoption of intellectual and cultural activities by the administration of the holy shrine. As after that the library joined the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions in 2018, our library initiated a number of projects with common objectives that would be developing the work of all Iraqi libraries, in line with the desired objectives of (IFLA) to serve researchers, beneficiaries and every student of science and knowledge around the world.

Then Al-Yasiri reviewed a number of projects adopted by the library:

- The adoption of the library of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) as an official contributor to the collection of Iraqi libraries data on the international map of libraries.

- Approval of the Library and House of Manuscripts of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) as Coordinator in Iraq for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (2030)

- The Iraqi Scientific Output Conservation Project, which summarizes the process of digitization of old Iraqi paper products from which no electronic copies are available.
