Planting palm trees on 20 hectares in al-Saqi farms.

The Engineering Projects Department at the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine revealed that the staffs of the al-Saqi project have taken the first steps to plant (20 Ha) of palm seedlings, with rare varieties such as al-Barhi and al-Saq'i, which were prepared earlier.

The head of the department, Engineer Dea' Majeed al-Sa'egh, told Al-Kafeel Network that: "The al-Saqi project, which is being implemented on an area estimated at (1025 Ha), has allocated a part of its area estimated at (100 Ha) for the cultivation of palms of rare Iraqi varieties, with good productivity and suitable for cultivation in the desert of Karbala."

He added, "Cultivating these varieties is one of the project's development plans, which included in this phase planting a new variety of palm seedlings."

Al-Sa'egh explained: “During this operation, we followed a modern mechanism in terms of the permitted areas and the method of irrigation that relied on drip, preceded by preparing the soil, preparing fertilizers, and defining the place for planting each seedling using modern equipment. And we plan to plant other varieties of palm seedlings that will be an addition to these farms, both qualitatively and quantitatively."

The Saqi Farms project is one of the most important projects adopted by the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, through which it achieved a number of goals, the most important of which is the provision of water storage by relying on groundwater, which can be used in the event of any emergency or any stifling water crisis, and which indicators have begun to appear, while investing the rest of the area to cultivate it with a number of agricultural crops, including palm trees.
