The Senior Official of the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine; Sayed Ahmad al-Safi, opened on Sunday the basements of the imams al-Hussayn and al-Jawad (peace be upon them).
The opening ceremony, which coincided with the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), was attended by the head of the Shiite Endowment Office; Dr. Haidar al-Shammari, the governor of the holy city of Karbala; engineer Jassim Nassif al-Khattabi and a number of official figures, in addition to the secretary general of the Al-Abbas's (P) Holy Shrine; Sayed Mustafa Mortadha Aal Diauddin, members of the board of directors and a number of heads of departments at the holy shrine.
The Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine built these basements in order to accommodate the number of visitors during the major Ziyarats. The Basement of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) is located under the holy courtyard, specifically opposite the square between the Two Holy Shrines.
The area of the Basement of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) is one thousand square meters with a length of (66 m) and width (14.2 m), and its walls are decorated with figures, inscriptions and alabaster ornaments, as well as the presence of the Iwans of the Holy Qur'an, books of supplications and Ziyarat and Turbahs, with the completion of its upper part separating the wall and ceiling with a Quranic writing inscriptions.
The basement contained (32) chandeliers painted with Gold water and ornate crystal, in addition to glazing the ceiling with colored and artistically cut glass.
The basement was equipped with an integrated cooling system installed in a technical and professional manner, to create a suitable atmosphere for the performance of the Ziyarat, and attached to ventilation, lighting, electricity, alarm, fire, surveillance and Acoustics Systems, as well as equipped with escalators.
While the area of the Basement of Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon him) is also one thousand square meters, and it is reserved for female visitors only, and it is located below the holy courtyard of the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), specifically on its north side, in the area between the gates of Imam Musa al-Kadhem and Ali al-Hadi (peace be upon them).
The construction of these two basements was supervised by the Engineering Projects Department at the Al-Abbas's (P) Holy Shrine.
