The completion of the concrete structure of the tunnel connecting the basements of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine and its external expansion.

In parallel with the holy month of Ramadhan and after a continuous work of precision and craftsmanship, the engineering and technical staff completed the concrete structure of the tunnel project linking the basements of Imam al- Hussayn and Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon both of them) inside the holy shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) with the basements of its external expansion, through a unified port that is under the gate of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) in order to contribute to ease the movement of the visitor.

To be more informed about this project, we met with the head of engineering projects Department at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine' Engineer Dia' Majeed al-Sa'egh, who stated: "The project of linking the shrine's basements with the external expansion basements is a complementary project to these two projects. As after we have carried out and completed the works of the expansion basements, and we started the works of the basements of the holy sanctuary, namely the basement of Imam al-Hussayn and the basement of Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon both of them), there was a proposal of the senior official of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine; Sayed Ahmed Al-Safi to link the expansion basements to the sanctuary's basements in one area, which is the gate of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him). "

He added: "This project will achieve many points, including:

- Connecting the basements of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) from inside and outside in one point of bond.

- Facilitating the visitors' movement within these basements without having to use the main entrances of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine.

- Connecting the two expansion basements located on both sides of the gate of Imam al-Hassan (peace be upon him).

- Connecting the entrances and exits of all the basements (the sanctuary and the expansion) with one central point.

- When the project is completed, there is a possibility to make it be allocated to women and this will create additional space for them."

He indicated: "The work of this project, which is implemented by Al-Quds Company for construction contracting, is complex and difficult because we will descend to the depths and foundations of the shrine and we will cut the old concrete wall of the basement of Imam al-Hassan (peace be upon him) by special equipment purchased from Germany allocated for this project. We will have an opening in the basement of the Imam al-Hassan (peace be upon him) on the expansion side by 4 meters width and 3 meters height. Then we will do the same in the concrete wall in the basement of the imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), and after this stage, we will connect the two basements together. "

He concluded: "The work is continuing but with extreme precision because it intersects with the removal of the foundations and many services' pipes that will be transferred and linked to other pipes as well as groundwater works, and once the drilling work finish, we start with the work of the walls' treatment and support with building materials, making the walls be in harmony with the basements' walls."
