The Structural Engineering Laboratory is an important pillar for implementing the projects of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine.

The engineering and construction laboratory of the Engineering Projects Department at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine is one of the important and supporting joints of its work. This is due to the expansion of the various projects adopted by the Holy Shrine, which necessitated that there be a laboratory of its own to meet its needs in this field, in addition to achieve self-sufficiency.

The Structural Engineering Laboratory consists of several laboratories:

1- The construction lab: Its work is the examination of the concrete material and reinforcing steel, as well as the materials involved in the construction process.

Soil analysis lab: The soil is examined in two ways: the first is soil examination, quality and suitability for the implementation of projects, the second part is called (soil investigations), and this process is different from the previous, it is more complicated; as it is done by drilling into the soil from (25 m) to (30 m), where the soil is also taken to be examined in its examination laboratory.

3 - Laboratory of chemical analysis: It is one of the most important existing laboratories, since it is working very accurately, which is an important stage in determining a large part of the quality of the project; because in this laboratory is examining the composition of the internal structure of the materials involved in the construction process.

4 - Field laboratories: It is different from others because its work is at the site of the project, where the laboratory is installed in the workplace after the contract with the company executing the project, and this laboratory resorted by some in order to shorten the duration of the examination process, instead of taking samples of the material to be examined and transported to the laboratory to be examined, the examination is done on the site.

5- Roads and Bridges Laboratory: It is specialized in inspecting the roads and the materials involved in them.

The laboratory works according to administrative and technical controls within the conditions of the standardization and quality control department in the Iraqi Ministry of Planning, which makes the specifications conform to the Iraqi engineering standards in force officially, and employs a cadre of engineering and technical specialists who are trained to work on the laboratory equipment to achieve the required results.

It is noteworthy that at the beginning of the construction of the structural engineering laboratory, its work was limited to the projects of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, but after the expansion of the projects and its success as well as the good reputation achieved by the laboratory in this field, the official bodies and others were prompted to cooperate with it and open communication channels to complete their projects.
