The holy shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) is covered with black banners to declare the Ashura mourning.

It was narrated from Imam as-Sadeq (peace be upon him): "When the month of Moharram’s Moon appears, angels will open up the al-Hussayn’s bloody shirt in heavens, while it is torn by the strike of the swords, and simmered in blood. So we and our followers can see it, not by the eyes of our heads, but by the eyes of our hearts, therefore our eyes burst into tears."

Based on this narration, and like the rest of the holy shrines inside and outside Iraq in addition to mosques and Hussayniyat, the manifestations of sadness and mourning are spread throughout the holy shrine Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), where black banners are hung as an expression of sadness and sorrow of this sad occasion.

The Department of the Shrine's Care took the responsibility of showing these mourning signs, after the sewing division at the Holy Shrine completed all its works on these banners and condolence flags, they were hung as planned, reflecting the atmosphere of sadness and sorrow. The mentioned Division has started these works for more than six days, and it is hoped that they will be completed before the start of the rituals of raising the flag of the Hussayni sadness, marking the beginning of the holy month of Moharram.

Signs of grief were spread and hung all around the holy sanctuary, as well as the entrances and exits of the gates. These banners were inscribed by Hadiths and expressions of this sad occasion.
