A large crowd of scholars and representatives of the religious authorities' offices in Najaf, students of the Hawza and large popular and community circles participated in the funeral ceremonies.
The mourning crowds had begun the funeral ceremonies of the deceased at the shrine of his great grandfather, Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him), where they were received by the Senior Official of the Imam al-Hussayn's (p) holy shrine; His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbala'i as well as the servants of the holy shrine. The funeral prayer was performed by Sayed Mohammad Taqi al-Hakim; brother of the deceased, followed by the Ziyarat rituals recited by Sheikh al-Karbala'i. Then the mourners took the body to circumambulate the holy sanctuary.
Then the body was carried on the palms of those who loved him, amid the groans and tears of the mourners, who made their way to the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), where they were received by the Senior Official of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, His Eminence Sayed Ahmad al-Safi, the Secretary General; Eng. Mohamad al-Ashigar and his deputy, members of the shrine's board of directors and a number of heads of its departments, as well as the servants of the holy shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him).
The Ziyarat rituals were then performed on behalf of the soul of the deceased (may God be pleased with him), recited by His Eminence Sayed Ahmad al-Safi. A Hussayni council was held after that, and his coffin was carried to circumambulate the holy sanctuary.
After that, the funeral procession moved to transport the body of the deceased to the province of Najaf, where is his final resting place.
