Leg artery transplantation for an elderly man at Al-Kafeel Hospital

A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital succeeded in saving an injured leg from amputation, after more than a week of follow-up of his health condition.

The specialist of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the hospital; Dr. Ahmed Jawad, said that a 60-year-old patient came to the hospital with a gunshot wound in the lower left limb, which led to the expansion of the knee artery and lost a lot of blood, which made his leg threatened with amputation.

He added that we decided to perform surgery to transplant the damaged artery, after an eight-day follow-up because the patient's leg was swollen and needed follow-up and preparations.

The patient's condition stabilized after the operation and he was able to leave the hospital in good health. The specialist of Thoracic and vascular surgery stressed that the intensive care inside the hospital and its trained staff are capable of dealing with various advanced cases which contribute to the quality of medical services provided to the patient.
