Treatment of paralysis of the vocal cords in a way that is carried out for the first time in Iraq

A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital has successfully treated a patient suffering from paralysis of the vocal cords as a result of complications of a previous thyroid operation.

The specialist of ear, nose and throat surgery at the hospital, Dr. Adel al-Masoudi, "we performed an operation on a patient suffering from a problem of voice change and difficulty in pronunciation, and a case of complications of a previous thyroid operation, which resulted in paralysis of the vocal cords on the right side".
"The operation was carried out by taking fatty tissue from the body, preparing it in a special way, and injecting it into the paralyzed vocal cord,"he added.

According to al-Masoudi, "this type of operation was not performed in Iraq before, and it is now possible and the success rates in it are good," pointing out that "the experience of the medical team and modern hospital technologies contributed to conducting such operations."
