A medical team at Al-Kafeel Hospital successfully removed a tumor from the spinal cord

A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital in Karbala restored limb movement to a patient suffering from a tumor in the spinal cord.

"We received a patient suffering from impaired mobility of the lower extremities, lack of control over vital activities, as a result of the presence of a tumor extending from the thoracic vertebrae to the lumbar vertebrae,"said Dr. Khaled al-Sarraj, a specialist in neurosurgery at the hospital.

"After conducting tests and diagnosing the condition, we decided to perform a tumor removal operation and the patient was prepared for the operation, and we prepared all requirements, including intensive care in anticipation of any emergency,"he added.

"The operation was difficult and complicated, but we succeeded and were able to open the vertebrae, remove the tumor completely, and free the spinal cord without any complications,"he said.

The neurosurgeon stressed that " the patient regained the movement of his limbs normally after the operation, and his health condition stabilized, and he did not need intensive care," noting that "the capabilities and techniques available at the hospital were an important factor in the success of that operation."
