A Lebanese surgeon at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital revealed that he performed 45 successful cochlear implants for children of different ages.
The specialist of ear, nose and throat surgery at the hospital, the Lebanese doctor Dr. Hisham al-Mousawi said, "the number of cochlear implants we have performed over the past months has reached about (45) operations, and all of them were completely successful without any complications, and most of them were for children".
He added that "cochlear implants for a child under three years of age have much better speech results later, because the auditory and speech centers improve quickly after the operation for a child of this age, while the improvement of speech centers is more difficult with older age".
Al-Mousawi stressed the need to pay attention to children who show signs of hearing loss, and subject them to an early medical examination to treat their hearing problems before they reach advanced and complex stages.
