The events of the annual International Conference (memory of pain in Iraq) witnessed the opening of an exhibition of more than 250 historical photographs and documents.
The conference is organized by the Iraqi Center for the documentation of extremist crimes of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, in cooperation with the UNESCO chair for Genocide Prevention Studies at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Baghdad, the martyrs and political prisoners institutions, the Higher National Authority for accountability and justice, and the University of Baghdad.
The conference is being held under the slogan (for a future free of pain), and the title (memory of pain in Iraq, a century of crimes, genocides, massacres and violations); with the aim of reviving national identity and enhancing collective awareness and emotional spirit, in a way that enhances social cohesion, and helps protect society from New tragedies.
The head of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the holy shrine; Sayed Aqeel al-Yasiri, said: "the events of the memory of pain conference included the establishment of an exhibition of photographs documenting the crimes committed against the Iraqi people in all its components and sects."
He added that"the exhibition was held under the auspices of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, represented by the Iraqi Center for the documentation of extremist crimes of the Department of intellectual and cultural affairs, as well as the Martyrs Foundation, the foundation of political prisoners and the accountability and Justice Commission, and witnessed the display of more than 250 photos along with some of the prisoners' belongings and equipment that the former regime used to torture the Iraqi people."
"The exhibition came to be a witness for generations, especially young ones, to learn about the violations that their parents and grandparents were subjected to at the hands of the former regime,"he added.
The exhibition included a review of photos and files documenting the crimes of genocide committed against the Iraqi people, in addition to displaying photos of the martyrs of the Blessed fatwa in order to highlight the great sacrifices made in the face of injustice and terrorism.
