The Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department of the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) in the African continent.
This was done by holding a series of mourning councils in several cities across the continent, including N'Djamena in the Chad region, Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire, Niamey in Niger, and Kaduna in Nigeria.
The African Studies Center of the department organized mourning councils with the participation of around 500 believers, aiming to establish and spread the principles of the Hussaini uprising in African Islamic communities.
The councils included several segments, such as the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, the reading of prayers, the Ziyarat Ashura, and a lecture that discussed the story of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) and the lessons it carries in sacrifice, patience, and steadfastness on the truth, in addition to the reading of poems and elegies related to the sad commemoration.
The African Studies Center is keen on commemorating Ashura in the African continent, highlighting the spiritual and humanitarian aspects of Imam al-Hussayn's (peace be upon him) uprising, and its significance in the hearts of the people.
