The delegations of the EU mission and FAO are briefed on the Al-Saqi agricultural project

A delegation from the European Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) visited the Al-Saqi agricultural project, affiliated with the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, in Karbala Governorate.

This visit included tours of the date palm groves, the date processing and packaging plant, and its production lines.

Engineer Jaafar Al-Qutb, the Managing Director of Al-Kafeel Food Industries Company, which is affiliated with the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, stated, "The company welcomed the European Union and FAO delegation to the Al-Saqi alternative water project. The delegation toured the date palm groves, learned about the different varieties and their increasing numbers, and observed the agricultural practices employed. This visit reflects the delegation's interest in combating desertification, environmental issues, and climate change."

He added, "The delegations also visited the company's date processing and packaging plant, where they were briefed on the various production lines, including those for date syrup, date paste, pressed dates, and sweets. They also learned about the methods used for packaging and preserving the products."

For his part, the head of the cooperation department at the European Union mission to Iraq, Mr. Willem Ribma, said, "It is wonderful to see palm cultivation in this desert, as well as date syrup production factories, and they have a great impact on the future of the industry in this region."
