The al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine is preparing to inaugurate the first university specialized in medicine.

In accordance with the scientific and academic quality standards, the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine is prepared to inaugurate the first university specialized in medicine, which was named "Al-'Ameed Medical University". The first stage includes the classes of General Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, with the opening of other medical classes in the future according to the plans developed by the Department of Education and Higher Education at the holy shrine.

The opening of this university comes as part of the attention given by the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine to the educational and academic aspects and its contribution to its advancement, as well as the success achieved by al-Kafeel College (former College of Humanities), in addition to the increasing demands from the outstanding students wishing to study in educational institutions of the holy shrine.

The university if located on the road Najaf to Karbala on an area of 25 dunums: 62.500 square meters, and which design and implementation plans were developed according to the standards of its peers from the Iraqi universities with artistic touches that contribute to create an ideal atmosphere for learning and an academic model that stimulates the leading models in the higher education sector with various medical programs and specialities which were implemented by the technical and engineering staff in the engineering maintenance department of the holy shrine.

The university includes fifteen classrooms equipped and furnished to be attached to other halls allocated to the laboratories, each according to its competence. As well as an independent building for the presidency of the university and a housing students' complex, a Masjid for prayer for men and women, sport squares, medical center and parking lot.

Specialized committees of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research have visited repeatedly the university and their observations were taken into account to make the university at the approved international standards. Also al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital has made its visit and concluded that it will be able to make a progress in their responsibilities in medical education.

The Department of Education and Higher Education at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine has confirmed that the university will open its door to the students at the beginning of the next academic year (2017 - 2018).
