The supreme religious authority: The humanitarian, national and legitimate duty of the concerned authorities, requires them to put an end to the suffering of the people of Basra.

The supreme religious authority has shown that the humanitarian, national and legitimate duty of the concerned authorities and departments requires them to cooperate and coordinate with each other in order to put an end to the suffering of the people in the city of Basra and to find a suitable and speedy solution to their problem, which is a possible thing if there is serious will, true intention and sufficient care of the officials in the central and local governments.

These were the important points stated in the second sermon of the Friday prayer of the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1439 AH corresponding to the August 24, 2018, which was held in the holy shrine of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) and led by His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, in which he stated:

The citizens in the province of Basra continue to complain about their suffering from severe shortages of potable water, the non-validity of the tap water even for bathing and other human use. The use of contaminated water has resulted that many people were poisoned and got affected by some skin diseases. And despite the repeated appeals from the religious authority and other bodies, the efforts to resolve this dilemma - albeit temporarily - remain below the minimum. It is very regrettable that this humanitarian crisis did not find up today the appropriate attention by the competent government agencies that are good only in blaming others and making others bear the responsibility for the negligence in this file. The humanitarian, national and legitimate duty of the concerned authorities and departments is to cooperate and coordinate among themselves in order to put an end to the suffering of the people in the city of Basra, and to find a suitable and rapid solution to their problem, which is possible if there is serious will, true intention and sufficient attention of the competent officials of the central and local governments, by working together in the spirit of one team to make firm and urgent decisions away from the routine procedures and conflict of powers between different departments.
