The technical and engineering staffs working on the cladding project of the sanctuary of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him) began laying the first tiles in the first section, specifically in the area confined between the gate of Imam Ali al-Hadi (peace be upon him) and the gate of the Euphrates (Al-‘Alqami), after it was fully configured and processed for these works.
According to Engineer Majeed al-Sa'egh, head of the Engineering Projects Department at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine: "These works are carried out in parallel with the cladding work of the Iwans that reached advanced stages."
He added: "The cladding is made with the finest types of alabaster and using a technical method that gives adhesion strength in harmony with the marble used in the cladding of the Iwans to create a state of artistic harmony and symmetry."
Al-Sa'egh stated: "The cladding process was divided into many phases, parts and sections. All of which was preceded by the complete survey of the project to develop its specific designs and plans, with engravings and decorations in harmony with the rest sections of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine to create a symmetry state."
Al-Sa'egh indicated: "The first phase of this project includes several executive work, which are:
-The removal of old marble
-The removal of the old concrete parts and repairing the damaged ones.
-Pouring concrete floor in preparation for cladding it with special concrete to help the adhesion to the old floor and to prevent moisture.
-Installing an iron mesh to be put under the concrete casting.
-Installing a ground network from water drainage networks to connections of electricity, fire and communications systems, to connect them to the holy sanctuary, and then to the main systems of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine.
-Starting the cladding work with alabaster according to the specific measurements taking into consideration the inclination degree."
He also pointed out that the new marble, which will be used in the cladding works, is of the type of "multi-onyx" that has been subjected to several technical and engineering tests in terms of endurance and consistency of color and thickness 4 cm, in addition to other specifications that gave beauty to these marble pieces."
The project is executed by the Engineering Projects Department and the Engineering Maintenance Department at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine. It is a complement to a series of projects carried out in a the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), and as a result of the great damage of the current marble, which led to the distortion of its general view in addition to being old, as it has been more than (50) years since its installation until it was included within the implemented projects without intersection with other projects.
