Al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital starts using Dexa Scan device to measure bone density and determine its fragility.

Al-Kafeel specialist Hospital of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine started within its plan to keep abreast of the development of the latest medical technologies using Dexa Scan device to measure bone density and determine its fragility.

The director of the Center for Nuclear Medicine at the hospital; Doctor Mohamad al-Shamma' stated: "The hospital's administration has been keen to use the latest medical devices to diagnose diseases, including this device that is characterized by giving reliable examination results to diagnose osteoporosis, bone mineral density, bone mass and the possibility of fractures. It is also used to track progress in treating osteoporosis or in cases of cancer patients after chemotherapy. The test is also used to measure the ratio of fat to muscle, which is specific to sports medicine, as well as the measurement of bone density of the lumbar vertebrae, femoral neck, forearm bones and full body scans.

Adding: "The examination is safe from radiation and has no adverse side effects as the amount of radiation to which the patient is exposed is very small. Orthopaedic doctors can rely on the results of the examination using it and it is convenient for both patients and doctors."

"Early diagnosis of osteoporosis prevents the patient from being exposed to bone fractures in case of any bruising, and patients can take this examination either from hospital doctors or from other hospitals." he said.
