Secretary-general: the basements of imams al-Hussayn and al-Jawad (peace be upon them) will add a great service for female visitors

The secretary general of the Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine; Sayed Mustafa Mortadha Aal Dia Uddin, stressed that the opening of the basements of the two imams al-Hussayn and al-Jawad (peace be upon them), will add a great service to female visitors to the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him).

The Secretary General said that "the holy shrine has instructed that these basements should be reserved for women, from visitors to the holy shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), which will contribute to easing traffic situations and arranging the smooth flow and movement of visitors, especially on the days of the major Ziyarats, such as the Ziyarat Arba'een".

He added,"the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine seeks to provide the best services to visitors to the shrine of Aba al-Fadl (peace be upon him), by continuing the expansion of the holy shrine and its surroundings, and the creation of spacious spaces for visitors, equipped with various services needed by the visitor, in addition to starting the establishment of the courtyard of lady Umm al-Baneen (peace be upon her) for visitors."

For his part, the head of the Engineering Projects Department; engineer Dia Majeed al-Sa'egh, said: "We worked on investing the area of the courtyard by creating underground basements, so that we have a courtyard and a basement," indicating that "the two basements of Imam al-Hussayn and Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon them) were connected to each other on the one hand, and linked them to the old expansion project on the other hand, i.e. to the borders surrounding the Holy Courtyard, and they were integrated through a tunnel with the new expansion."

He added that "the work of the two projects was complicated due to the age of the dome and the minaret, which exceeds more than (700) years, and therefore concrete pillars were made at a depth of seven meters to preserve the dome and the Iwans, and then start the project," explaining that "the two basements are located in the middle of a basin of water due to the presence of the Al-'Alqami River, which runs near the holy Sanctuary, and the entry of water from all sides was treated through the work of wells inside the basement."

Al-Sa'egh stressed that "the aim of the establishment of the two projects is to reduce the momentum that occurs in the Courtyard of the shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), and provide an appropriate atmosphere for women to perform their Ziyarat ceremonies and acts of worship, as the capacity reaches 20 thousand visitors".
