Under the auspices of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine: the start of the First International Medical Conference for Spine Surgery.

Under the auspices of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, this morning (27th Jumada II 1441 AH) corresponding to February 22, 2020, the activities of the first scientific conference for spine surgery held by Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital were launched in cooperation with the Iraqi Society of Neurosurgery, the al-'Ameed University, the Karbala Health Department and the Iraqi Orthopedic and Fractures Association.

The conference, which was hosted by the al-'Ameed Central Hall, witnessed the participation of 23 researchers who presented their research studies in three research sessions, highlighting the latest developments and practices in the field of diagnosing and treating spine problems.

The activities of the conference, which witnessed the presence of the Secretary-General of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine and the researchers and specialists in this field, started with reciting verses from the Holy Quran and reading Surat Al-Fatihah in respect of the souls of Iraq’s martyrs, listening to the Iraqi national anthem and the anthem of the Holy Shrine (the pride's tune), then a welcome speech delivered by the al-Kafeel hospital director, Dr. Jassim Al-Ibrahimi, welcomed the attendees, wishing them to achieve their aspirations in their presence and participation, and to contribute to the exchange of experiences and access to the latest developments in this medical field.

After that, the research sessions started, where the first was chaired by Professor Dr. Thamer Ahmed Hamdan, and Dr. Hossam Ghazi Al-Anbari as Rapporteur, and witnessed the launch of (8) researches.

As for the second session, it was chaired by Dr. Abdul Amir Jassem Al-Khafaji, and Dr. Saad Sahib Nasir as Rapporteur, and it witnessed (7) researches.

And the third research session was chaired by Dr. Muhammad Ali Fadhel, and Dr. Haider Sabahi as a rapporteur, and witnessed (8) researches.

The conference activities also included holding a scientific workshop that revolved around the advanced spine surgeries, as well as an exhibition that included the presentation of medical products in addition to introductory posters related to the conference axes.

The preparatory committee of the conference has also honored one of the pioneers of this specialty; Dr. Thamer Al-Hamdani, one of the most famous doctors of fractures in Iraq from the province of Basra and the former president of its university.
