The hollow concrete block production plant is considered one of the factories belonging to the Engineering Projects Department at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, and it was established to contribute to meeting the needs of the domestic market of construction materials and developing them, compensating and reducing foreign import and raising the rate of efficiency in the investment of local materials from raw materials, such as cement, sand and gravel that are abundant in the holy city of Karbala, as well as for the purpose of helping to reduce unemployment by employing the national workforce.
This is according to what the director of the factory, Eng. Jaafar Hussein Al-Qutb, told us. He added: "The block production plant is an important infrastructure plant, and it has made a great contribution to compensate for the shortfall in brick production. And as a result of the availability of raw materials in Karbala, we have established this factory, to produce hollow blocks in different sizes and forms depending on their uses. "
Adding: "The factory is of international origin and produces two types of blocks (heavy weight and light weight), and of different dimensions (10 x 20 x 40) cm, (15 x 20 x 40) cm, (20 x 20 x 40) cm, and it works with high technology and hydraulic and vibrators system, and it is one of the modern factories that works with a special software system to control the quantities of materials entering and the way of mixing them."
Stressing that: "The products of the factory are characterized by their accuracy in terms of measurements and manufacturing that facilitate their construction work and their various uses, as well as their resistance to external atmospheric conditions from dust, moisture, heat, and also the color fastness for the colored ones, as well as the consistency of their material and their high durability of pressure, and for the purpose of controlling and following up laboratory tests, an on-site laboratory was established to examine the produced materials, supervised by a specialized cadre, and who have proven the efficiency of the product according to the standards of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. "
“We announce our readiness to supply the public and private sectors with these products, by reviewing the factory site located on the (Baghdad-Karbala) road, the central Khabata site of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, and looking closely at these products,” Al-Qutb said.
