The Digital Information Center asks the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to preserve cultural heritage

The Digital Information Center of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine Library signed an international request issued by the International Federation of Libraries and Information (IFLA), the International Council of Archives (ICA), electronic information for libraries (EIFL), the International Council of Museums (ICOM), and the American Archives Association (SAA) ), Addressed to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), regarding urgent measures taken to help preserve cultural heritage around the world.
Mr Ammar Hussein Al-Jawad of the Digital Information Center explained to the al-Kafeel Network, saying: “On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day, an assistance call was launched to join the International Federation of Libraries and Information (IFLA), the International Council of Archives (ICA), electronic information for libraries (EIFL), and the International Council of Museums (ICOM), and the American Archives Association (SAA), in an effort to obtain international support for the enactment of a new law by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), to allow groups to be preserved, to allow permissions, and to reduce the material cost of obtaining copies of them. ”
Al-Jawad added: "Libraries, archives, museums, sites and other institutions of cultural heritage suffer from the severe consequences of fires, floods and other disasters related to climate change, and therefore the damage or disappearance of any heritage material leads to impoverishment of the heritage of all nations, not far from our sight what happened to our country Iraq during the barbaric attack of ISIS, which led to the destruction of many of our heritage after the arson and sabotage operations they carried out, and this prompted us to embark on a project to preserve the Iraqi scientific product in which we have reached advanced stages.
It is noteworthy that the digital information center affiliated with the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine Library is the only one - from Iraq - that signed the request of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to enact a law that protects the world's cultural heritage.
