The Office of His Eminence, the Supreme Religious Authority, Sayed Ali al-Sistani, issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and regret over the tragic event that the city of Beirut was subjected to, offering its condolences to the Lebanese people for this great tragedy.

“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
The supreme religious authority in Najaf expresses its deep sorrow and regret for the tragic event that the dear city of Beirut was subjected to following the massive explosion that occurred in its port, which resulted in a large number of victims and missing persons, and double that number of the wounded and injured and the displacement of tens of thousands of citizens from their homes, and led to a wide devastation, extensive losses and severe damage to buildings and property, in one of the most tragic scene in recent decades.
As we extend to the honorable Lebanese people our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy for this great affliction, and we ask God the Almighty to help them and grant them more strength, patience and solidarity to overcome this great ordeal, we call upon the honorable believers and all the lovers of good in the world to show solidarity with it in this difficult circumstance and to provide it with all available means of assistance to mitigate the effects of this great disaster on it.
We ask God Almighty to bestow the extensive mercy upon the victims, to inspire their families with patience and solace, and to bless the injured with recovery and wellness, for He is the Most Merciful.
