Ashura stations: the argument of Imam Mohammad al-Baqer (peace be upon him) to Yazeed in the presence of his father Zayn al-Abideen (peace be upon him).

The historians mention that when Imam Zayn al-Abideen (peace be upon him) was presented in front of Yazeed, he was accompanied by his son Mohammad al-Baqer (peace be upon him), who was two years and several months old. When Yazeed saw him, he said to him: “How did you, ‘Ali, see what Allah did to your father al-Hussayn?”? He said: “Whatever misfortune befalls the earth or your own selves is already in a Book even before we cause it to happen; this is easy for Allah, so that you may not grieve about what you missed nor feel elated on account of what you receive. And Allah does not love those who are haughty and proud.”

So Yazeed consulted his sitters about his issue, then they advised him to kill him.

So Aba Jaafar al-Baqer (peace be upon him) took the initiative to speak, so he (peace be upon him) praised God then said to Yazeed: These people have advised you, contrary to what Pharaoh’s sitters advised him, when he consulted them on the matter of Moses and Aaron, for they said to him: (Spare him and his brother). And they have advised you to kill us, for a reason.

Yazeed said: What is the reason?

Imam (peace be upon him) said: Those were wise, and these are not wise, as only those who do not know whom are their fathers would kill the prophets and their children. Thus Yazeed became silent, putting his head down.

The historians also mention that Ali son of Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) stood up in front of Yazeed and said: Do not aspire to insult us and we honor you, and to stop harm to you and you harm us, for God knows that we do not love you, and we do not blame you if you do not love us.

Yazeed said: You are right! But your father and grandfather wanted them to be commanders, so praise be to God who killed them and shed their blood.

Then Yazeed said: Yes, O Ali, it is your father who cut off my family, ignored of my right, and disputed my authority. Thus God made of him what you have seen. Ali bin Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) said: "Whatever misfortune befalls the earth or your own selves is already in a Book even before we cause it to happen; this is easy for Allah, so that you may not grieve about what you missed nor feel elated on account of what you receive. And Allah does not love those who are haughty and proud.” Yazeed said to his son Khaled: “Reply to him, son!" But Khaled did not know what to say, so Yazeed said: "Whatever misfortune befalls you is due to what your hands commit."

The Imam answered him, saying: "This (verse) concerns those who do wrong, not those who are wronged." Then he (peace be upon him) said: "Allah takes the souls at the time of their death" Thus Yazeed kept silent. Ali son of Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) said: O son of Mu'awiyah, Hind and Sakhr, the prophethood and commandment are to my fathers and grandparents before you were born. And my grandfather Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (peace be upon him) was on the day of Badr, Uhud and Ahzab, having the banner of the Messenger of God (Allah's prayers be upon him and his family), and your father and grandfather had in their hands the flags of the infidels.

Other historians mentioned that: Ali son of Al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) said: While I am chained, would you give me permission to speak? Yazeed said: You may speak but don't say delirious words. He (peace be upon him) said: I have taken a position that no one like me should say delirious words. What do you think of the Messenger of God (Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) if he saw me in the chains? He said to those around him: Cut off his chains.
