Numerous civil works carried out by the technical unit in the Department of the area between the Two Holy Shrines.

The cadres of the technical unit of the General Maintenance Division in the Department of the area between the Two Holy Shrines carry out many civil works related to the square between the Two Holy Shrines and the streets leading to them, in addition to the sites of the aforementioned department spread inside and outside the Old City.
Regarding the nature of this unit’s work, its official, Ali Muhammad Sahib, said: “Our unit accomplishes several tasks entrusted to it, as the unit’s work is divided into blacksmithing, plumbing, painting and building work.”
He added, "Blacksmithing works include the maintenance of the covered sections of the yard between the Two Holy Shrines, in addition to all sites of the department."
He continued: "With regard to the plumbing work, it includes the maintenance of the drinking water system pipes (RO), as well as the maintenance of the ablution fountains, in addition to what the department sites need from all plumbing works."
With regard to the painting works, Sahib said: "The staff of our unit paint the sidewalks of the streets surrounding the square between the Two Holy Shrines and leading to it, and the paint works extend to all the sites of the department in addition to carrying out the work of covering these sites with secondary ceilings and covering the walls with plastic coating."
As for the construction work, he explained: "Our staffs are specialized in cladding the sidewalks with (muqarnas), in addition to filling in the pits on the avenue of streets surrounding the area between the Two Holy Shrines and leading to it, and cladding these pits."
He concluded by saying, "Our efforts are multiplied during the days of the major Ziyarats, as our staffs are working to prepare and maintain some of the sites that house the volunteers who come to Karbala, to serve the visitors of the Master of the Martyrs and his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them both), in cooperation with the Department of Maintenance and Engineering Construction."
