The staffs of the Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) Fighting Squad - 26th Brigade of the Popular Mobilization Forces - have begun to construct a berm and a trench along the 'Ar'ar border crossing to the al-Nukhayb district as a first stage. Other stages will follow according to an action plan developed for this purpose, in order to increase the security fortifications and to prevent any security breach.
This work was based on the directives of the General Command of the Armed Forces, and in coordination with the Joint Operations Command, the Army Chief of Staff and the Command of the Karbala Operations, and with the participation of the engineering unit for the Karbala Operations and with direct support from the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine and the Ministry of Defense.
The central media of the Squad stated: "This berm is one of the strategic actions carried out by the Squad, which aims to split the desert in front of terrorist groups and cut off communication between these groups in the Western Sahara, and ends the possibility of their communication with the central and southern desert. This berm and trench are considered one of the most important security barriers in Iraq, as it will contribute to securing a vast desert, which area is approximately one-third of the country's area."
He added: "The length of the berm is (120 km), its height (3 meters) and the width of its base (4 meters), and the depth of the trench is (1.30 m). The percentage of accomplished word has reached 10% for a distance estimated at more than (15 km). The Squad's engineering unit and the units of the Ministry of Defense stationed with it, are making exceptional efforts to complete it within the specified times and planning. "
For its part, the Squad leadership confirmed that it is determined to complete the berm and the trench within the specified timings. And the Ministry of Water Resources has been invited to join its efforts in implementing this project.
It is noteworthy that the Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) Fighting Squad has been stationing in the district (Karbala / Al-Nukhayb) for more than five years, after ISIL terrorist gangs occupied parts of Anbar Province, based on the directives of the Joint Operations Command.
