The square between the two shrines is furnished with hundreds of carpets daily.

Carpet unit in the Department of the square between the two holy shrines of the holy shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and of al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them), harness great efforts for the service of the visitors.
The official of the unit Mr. Mohamad Ali Musa explained to Al-Kafeel Network: "In the normal days, the unit's staff cover and prepare the site of the congregational prayer by covering the area from the entrance of the Imam al-Hussayn's (p) holy shrine to the middle of the square between the two holy shrines. While in the Ziyarat days and Fridays' eves the carpet are extended to the entrance of the holy shrine of Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him)."
Adding: "The carpet according to the schemes is put to allow the pedestrian to use the square without intersection with the prayer. Noting that we have the sufficient quantity of carpets to cover the required area commensurate with the visitors' numbers."
He indicated: "The work of the unit is not limited to carpets, but to organize the ranks of worshipers and to show where the Qibla is, separating women and men during the congregational prayer, as well as finishing the covered areas of the square for allowing the visitors to rest and to perform their individual prayers."
Adding: "The unit is also responsible of the cleanliness of the carpet inside the square between the two holy shrines. From time to time, the carpet is removed to be handed over to the washing plant at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine. As well as the quick cleaning works held by the unit using small washing machines."
He concluded: "The length of carpets furnished inside the square between the two holy shrines, is 6 meters and one meter wide. The number of carpet used in the normal days is 200 carpets, while in the days of Ziyarat, Friday's eve and Eids, the number reaches 800 carpets."
