With the Ilizarov technique: stabilization of a fracture in the tibia

A medical team at the Al-Kafeel Specialist Hospital of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine announced its success in stabilizing a fracture at the beginning of the tibia of the left leg for a 30-year-old patient using the Ilizarov technique.

Dr. Haitham Al-Asadi, a specialist in orthopedics, fractures and joints at the hospital, said: “Our medical team succeeded in stabilizing a fracture at the beginning of the tibia in the left leg for a 30-year-old patient using the Ilizarov technique.”

He added, "The operation was carried out in two phases. In the first stage, an old internal platinum was removed as the patient had put it in one of the hospitals, which ended in failure and caused severe infections in the affected area."

Dr. Al-Asadi pointed out that: "In the first stage, infections were controlled and eliminated, and during the second stage of the operation the bone deformity and lack of fusion were treated."

He explained: "The Ilizarov technique is an external fixation in the form of rings that enable the patient to stand and walk and facilitate the process of treating non-fusion with the presence of infection."
