The fifth of Shawwal, the arrival of the ambassador of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) to Kufa.

The city of Kufa was honored on this fifth day of Shawwal, year 60 AH, with the arrival of the ambassador of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) and his trustee and cousin; Moslim Ibnu `Aqeel (peace be upon him), so he (peace be upon him) takes the appropriate decision.

As after the martyrdom of the Imam Ali (peace be upon him) Moslim followed with devotion Imam al-Hassan (peace be upon him) and then Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him).

When thousands of letters from people of Kufa, inviting Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) to come to Kufa, to support him, and pledge allegiance to him, Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) sent his cousin Moslim Ibnu 'Aqeel (peace be upon him) to report him the news of Kufans, to check their intentions, and to take the pledges of allegiance and their promises of obedience to Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him).

He (peace be upon him) wrote them a letter and sent it with him. The most important thing about this letter is the praising of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) to him -Moslim ibnu ‘Aqeel-, trusting him, and announcing him as the trustee of his family, which is a high status, and a great virtue. No one could have all of this honor but a great man like Moslim Ibnu ‘Aqeel (peace be upon him).

Saying: “From Al-Hussayn Ibnu Ali to the followers among the faithful and Muslims etc. I send to you my cousin, my brother and a trustworthy person from among my family Moslim Ibnu ‘Aqeel. And I have instructed him to inquire about your affairs and write to me regarding it. And if he writes to me that your elders, the wise and the learned men hold the same opinion as your messengers have conveyed to me and as written in your letters, then I shall come to you quickly, Allah willing.”

Moslim received the letter and left Mecca on the eve of the fifteenth of the Holy Month of Ramadhan. He prayed in the Masjid of the Holy Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) and toured his shrine, bid farewell to his family and companions, and headed for Iraq. Then he hired two guides from Qays tribe to show him the road to Kufa.

So he went to the house of Al-Mokhtar Ibnu Ubaydah Al-Thaqafi and people came to greet him. Whenever a group visited him, he read the book of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) while they were crying. The people pledged allegiance to him until their number reached eighteen thousand. Thus, when this huge number pledged allegiance to him and circumstances did not allow any delay, as the time factor is important in the circumstances of change and revolution, Moslim Ibnu `Aqeel wrote to Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) about the warm welcome and the oaths of allegiance he received from most of the residents of Kufa. Moslim wrote confirming the need for Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him) to come to Kufa.
