How did the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine contribute to improving the Karbala environment?

Coinciding with the World Environment Day, we will highlight the steps made by the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine to contribute to improving the Karbala environment, through several initiatives, the most important of which is the afforestation project in the Karbala Governorate.

The environmental aspect is one of the aspects that the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine has worked to support through several axes, the most important of which was the increase in green spaces in the Karbala Governorate. It has adopted many projects to contribute to achieving this goal, the most prominent of which was the afforestation project of the main and secondary streets in the governorate, which reflects a beautiful image of this holy city, in addition to contributing to improving the environmental atmosphere.

The al-Kafeel Nursery staff took the duty to implement this project, relying on their own available capabilities and with their full capacity, whether from the trees that multiply within the nursery, or through their human and mechanical effort. They developed a plan for its implementation that was in stages, starting with the streets and secondary roads in the old city, near and leading to the shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them), all the way to the main streets.

Afforestation works were carried out according to special measurements and plans, in a way that does not intersect or affect the urban pattern of the city. There are also groups that work to perpetuate, water, and fertilize the crops and replace the damaged ones. These works are done periodically throughout the year.

The trees that were chosen to be planted on the sidewalks, are trees that are characterized by their beauty, permanent greenness, and resistance to weather conditions, such as the Clove tree, Acacia Serianthes and others of big size trees that have the ability to live in Karbala.

According to specialized observers, these thousands planted trees, have contributed to reducing pollution, as plants work to increase and clean the oxygen in the atmosphere, in addition to their aesthetic aspect.
