A plan to increase varieties of dates in the farms of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine.

The al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine is preparing to start increasing the cultivation of dates, after the tangible success of its previous experience inside the al-Saqi farm.

To explain the details of this initiative, Engineer Dea' al-Sa'egh, Head of the Engineering Projects Department at the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine, explained: "The Saqi project includes two important aspects, the first is alternative water, and the second is the model palm farm, which is one of the strategic projects adopted by the Holy Shrine. The previous stage witnessed clear success in cultivating local varieties of date palms, which are distinguished by the distinctive quality of their dates. And thanks to God, the results were commensurate with the developed plan for this project, which is one of the important pillars to support the local economy."

And he stated: "After conducting several extensive studies, the second destination of this project was determined by expanding the cultivation of date varieties, which will contribute to increasing production of this product, as (5,000) additional seedlings were allocated to the farm, with the following dates' types: (Al-Barhi, Al-Saq’i, Al-Hilali, and Al-Majhoul), as these types are of high quality and nutritional value.

Al-Sa'egh concluded: “All the requirements for initiating this step are currently being prepared, in terms of creating a sufficient space, providing infrastructure, and adopting new agricultural methods using modern irrigation methods and environmentally friendly organic fertilizers, in order to make the initiative a success, to be added to the foregoing achievement within the Saqi project.
