The Karbala mourning procession recalls the martyrdom of the Holy Messenger at the shrine of Imam Ali (Allah’s prayers be upon them both and their family).

As usual on the eve of the twenty-eighth of Safar every year, the procession of the people of Karbala recalled the sad anniversary of the martyrdom of the Great Prophet Mohammad (Allah's prayers and peace be upon him and his family), offering their sincere condolences to his cousin and brother, Commander of the Faithful; Imam Ali (peace be upon him) at his holy shrine in the holy city of Najaf, in cooperation with the Department of Rituals, Processions, and the Hussayni bodies in the Holy Shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and al-Abbas (peace be upon both of them).

The head of the mentioned Department, Haj Riyadh Ni'mah al-Salman, explained to the Al-Kafeel Network, saying: “The condolences' procession of the people of Karbala is one of the processions that the two Holy Shrines, have been supporting by contributing to providing facilities for it to conduct its mourning rituals, especially those held outside the governorate, including this sad occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of the Holy Messenger Mohammad (Allah's prayers and peace be upon him and his family)."

He added: “The mourners set up a council for condolences in the courtyard of the shrine of the Commander of the Faithful Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (peace be upon him), which included reciting a number of poems and elegies embodying the depth of this sad calamity and great affliction, sharing the words of sorrow and expressions of sadness with mourning crowds as they comfort the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) for this calamity."

Indicating: “The procession started from the place designated for its departure every year, which is the Hussayniyat of Karbala’s people on Tusi Street in Najaf, after they lined up in the form of mourning groups, marching and chanting Karbalai elegies that embodied the extent of the tragedy and its impact on the believers."

Al-Salman concluded his speech by saying: “The two holy shrines have provided transport to the participants in this procession and the mourners from the Karbala province to the Najaf and then to the city of al-Hillah where is the shrine of al-Qasem son of Imam Musa al-Kadhem (peace be upon them), to hold similar mourning ceremonies in his holy shrine, and this is a custom that mourners are used to in commemorating this occasion.

The people of the Karbala procession will also extend the condolences to Imam al-Hussayn and Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon him), in whose shrines a mourning event will be held."
