The arrival of the captives from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon him) to the Madina.

On the second of the month of Rabi Awwal of the year 61 AH, the procession of captives of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) arrived to Yathrib (Madina), while the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household) were shedding tears for the killed ones in Karbala, recalling the humiliation they lived through their captivity journey, while the people of Madina were mourning the death of Lady Om Salamah, the Holy Prophet's faithful wife, who died one month after the killing of Imam al-Hussayn (peace be upon him).

When Imam Zayn al-'Abideen (peace be upon him) approached Madina, he installed his tent and made the ladies descend. Bishr Ibn Hadhlam was with him, so he (peace be upon him) told him: "O Bishr, may Allah have mercy upon your father, he was a poet. Do you know some of it?" He replied: "Yes, O son of the Messenger of Allah." Imam said: "So, enter Madina and inform them about the killing of Aba Abdillah..."

Bishr rushed to Madina and he went to the Masjid of the Prophet of Allah. There he wept loudly and said:

"O people of Yathrib! With what hope can one continue to live in this city?

Al-Hussayn has been martyred and my eyes are shedding tears for him.

His body, in Karbala, is covered with blood,

While its head is on the spear transported from place to the other".

The masses rushed to the Prophet's Mosque, wailing and shouting, waiting that Bishr give them more news, so they surrounded him and said: "What is the news?" He said: "This is Ali son of al-Hussayn with his aunties and sisters who have arrived, and I am his messenger to you to inform you about his place." The crowds rushed weeping to receive the family of the Messenger of Allah (Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household). Women surrounded the daughters of the Holy Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his holy Household), while men surrounded Imam Zayn al-'Abideen (peace be upon him). And the tears were shed on that day like on the day in which the Holy Prophet (Allah's prayers be upon him and upon his Holy Household) was martyred.

Imam Zayn al-'Abideen (peace be upon him) delivered then an influential speech in which he talked about what happened to Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) from the killing, abuse, captivity and humiliation.

It is evident from the speech of the Imam that he did not want to speak only with the object of expressing his sadness and creating a touching atmosphere. He really wanted to put the enemies of Ahl al-Bayt to shame and to summarize their oppressions in clear words and bring them to light by means of these brief sentences. He also said: "O people! We were treated as if we were infidels and apostates, although we had not committed any crime or sin and had not in any way betrayed Islam. By Allah, if the Prophet of Allah had ordered them to fight against us they would have done nothing more than they did".

Then the Imam marched with his aunts and sisters to the Prophet's Mosque. Once there, Lady Zaynab (peace be upon her_ grabbed the pillars of the mosque's door, and started talking to her grandfather; the Holy Prophet and extended her condolences to him for the martyrdom of his beloved grandson, saying: "O Grandfather! I am bringing to you the sad news of the killing of my brother al-Hussayn!"

The ladies of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) established the funeral of the Master of the Martyrs (peace be upon him) and wore black, and began mourning him and what happened to him.
