Successful operation for a one-day-old baby with intestinal atrophy

A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital has successfully operated on a one-day-old baby suffering from a congenital obstruction of the small intestine.

Pediatric surgery specialist Dr. Sarmad al-Rubaie, said that" this case is considered a rare case and occurs for a child out of every five thousand children, "adding "We were able, thanks to the techniques in the hospital, to perform an operation to open the abdomen of the baby, and we discovered the presence of atrophy in the small intestine".

"The distance of the atrophic intestine is long, and extends from the end of the small intestine to the exit," he said, explaining that "the baby will be followed up during the next six months, to be followed by surgery to pull the small intestine and connect it to the anal canal, thus ending the suffering of the child".

Al-Rubaie pointed out that "the operation was successful and the baby was taken out and is fully healthy and breastfeeding normally".
