An old photo of the El-Abbas Holy Shrine
Centuries ago, the El-Abbas Holy Shrine witnessed multiple attacks aggressively against it. In the middle of the first century A.H. pilgrims had been being murdered in addition to devastating the Holy Shrines in Kerbala holy city. The holy graves of Ahlul-Bayt (PBUT) in Kerbala were targeted to be devastated since they were very simple graves.

The Abbasside people legislated a law implying devastating the graves of Ahlul-Bayt (PBBUT) since they were very simple and with no lattice-enclosed tombs or holy shrines built over them. The Abbaside ruler the El-Mensur aggressively devastated the first shed over the grave of Imam Hussein (PBUH) in 146 A.H.

In 193 A.H. the Abbaside ruler Harun ordered to devastate all Kerbala holy city including the small structures over the graves of Imam Hussein and El-Abbas (PBUT). He even cultivated the graves and ordered to cut a jujube tree which overlooked the holy grave of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and used to be a noticeable sign to pilgrims to be guided to the grave.
