Two researchers from the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine review the role of its library in preserving heritage at an international conference

Two researchers from the staff of the Library and the House of Manuscripts of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, affiliated to the Intellectual and Cultural Affairs Department, reviewed the role and pioneering experience of the library in preserving the manuscript heritage and making it available to researchers and specialists.

The two researchers participated in the activities of the conference of the Arab Organization for administrative development at the league of Arab states, a forum of successful administrative experiences and practices held under the title (management of heritage institutions), in cooperation with the Arab manuscripts Institute – the Arab educational, cultural and scientific organization, at its headquarters in Cairo.

The first research participation was presented by the director of the Center for cataloguing and information systems of the library, Mr. Hassanein Ahmed al-Mousawi, and was entitled (electronic catalogs and their role in preserving the manuscript heritage) In his research, he explained that the Center is one of the most prominent Iraqi institutions that has worked to address the resulting problems for researchers, investigators and graduate students, so as to ensure that the challenges faced by their investigative and research project are addressed through what is available in its holdings within the catalogues of the manuscripts referred to within the Fields described for the manuscript, as well as reviewing the most important projects adopted by the Center, in addition to introducing its departments and the role of each department.

The second participation was a research presented by the assistant director of the Center for manuscript photography and catalogued by Mr. Haider Jassim Mahdi, entitled (Iraqi documents and the role of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine in preserving them: The experience of the Documents Department in analyzing and archiving the documents of its treasury at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine), and put forward several axes, the most important of which was to introduce the work of the Center and its use of the electronic archiving program, a program produced by the Al-Kafeel Center for Information Technologies, which was a Scientific Assistant to archivists, researchers and investigators, as it works on photocopying and archiving documents electronically.

The two researches won the praise and admiration of the attendees, who considered this experience and the step taken by the Library and House of Manuscripts of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine in preserving the manuscript heritage, as worthy of attention.
