Quranic competition in the children and youth category for five African countries

The Center for African Studies of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine conducted the tests of the first Quranic competition for children and youth in five African countries (Mauritania – Senegal – Niger - Mali- Tanzania).

The director of the center, Sheikh Saad Sattar al-Shammari, said that "the competition was held electronically in the middle of the holy month of Ramadhan, and aims to encourage children and young people in African countries to memorize the short surahs of the Holy Quran".

"After the end of the specified period of memorization, we have now started, in cooperation with the Institute of the Holy Quran in Najaf, affiliated with the scientific complex of the Holy Quran at the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, to conduct the tests for the competition through a Quranic committee specialized in recitation and its rules," he added.

Al-Shammari explained that "the competition witnessed the participation of (150) contestants aged (6-15) years, from the five African countries, distributed into five groups according to the number of participating countries, by (30) contestants during each day, and after the completion of the tests, the names of the winners will be announced according to the terms of the competition, with the allocation of cash gifts for them in addition to certificates of participation".

It is noteworthy that the Center for African Studies continues to organize a number of intellectual and cultural activities and events related to the African continent, including this competition, which will expand the circle of communication with African countries and contribute to the preparation of memorization of the Holy Quran for children and young people.
