Hip replacement for an elderly person at Al Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital

A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital succeeded in replacing the hip joint of a seventy-year-old man suffering from a fracture of the neck of the right femur through a qualitative surgical operation.

The specialist of orthopedic surgery, fractures and joints at the hospital; Dr. Ahmed Ni'mah al-Ta'i, said, "We succeeded in performing a partial hip replacement operation for a 72-year-old patient," indicating that the patient was suffering from a fracture of the neck of the right femur.

He added,"when the femoral neck of the patient ends with necrosis and death of the head of the bone makes fixation operations unsuccessful for such fractures and to ensure the patient's safety and speed up the healing process, we perform joint replacement".

A special type of joint was used, which contains a material (bone cement) that allows the patient to stand and move the next day of the operation, thus preventing the complications of a femur fracture, such as blood clotting, bed sores and other complications that affect the patient if he lies for long periods due to the fracture, according to al-Ta'i.

He pointed out that "partial joint replacement is an operation in which the head and neck of the femur are replaced and the pelvis or hip Cup is left as it is without replacement".
These operations are performed in Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital with modern techniques through a small incision not exceeding (7) cm, according to the specialist of orthopedic surgery, fractures and joints, pointing out that "physiotherapy is conducted by a special system that helps the patient to return to normal within a short time".
