A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital in Karbala performed a complex surgery on a forty-year-old patient who was saved from paralysis, while the team showed that the hospital's techniques helped in performing such operations.
"We recently succeeded in opening and stabilizing the vertebrae, freeing the spinal cord and implanting artificial cartilage for a patient in his fourth decade," said the specialist of neurosurgery at the hospital, Dr. Khaled al-Sarraj, noting that "the patient was suffering from severe pain in the lower extremities with the inability to move normally".
Al-Sarraj explained that "through tests and taking resonance images, it turned out that he had multiple spinal slips with severe compression on the spinal cord," explaining that "vertebrae and artificial cartilage implants were fixed during the operation".
The neurosurgeon added that "the patient recovered after the operation and left the hospital in good health".
