A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital in Karbala successfully performed an operation to stabilize broken vertebrae in the thoracic region of a patient and saved him from paralysis.
"The medical team succeeded in stabilizing vertebrae and removing pressure from the spinal cord of a 43-year-old patient," said neurosurgeon Dr. Hossam al-Anbari in a statement, explaining that "he was involved in a traffic accident that caused him to fracture the third and fourth thoracic vertebrae".
"The patient's injury was of a complicated type and resulted in compression of the spinal cord and paralysis of the lower extremities," al-Anbari added, "but we succeeded in treating him and stabilizing the broken vertebrae, and his health status has stabilized after the operation.
