The hussayni processions in the city of Karbala commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of the Commander of the Faithful; Imam Ali (peace be upon him) at the shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them).

The head of the Department of Hussayni Rituals, Processions and Bodies in Iraq and the Islamic world affiliated with the two holy shrines; Sayed Aqeel al-Yasiri, said that "the processions of the holy city of Karbala used to offer condolences by marching to the shrines of Imam al-Hussayn and his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas (peace be upon them) from the sites of these processions down to the Two Holy Shrines."

He added that "Hussayni processions continue to enter the city of Karbala from the night of the wounding of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) to the day of his martyrdom, as the process of entering processions was organized, including before and after Iftaar, up to late hours of the night to ensure the ease and smooth movement and avoid heavy crowds, or intersecting with visitors on the blessed night of Qadr".

He explained that"the Department provided its services to these processions by facilitating the process of their entry according to a special schedule for the entry of processions that reach the two holy shrines, as well as qualifying the Minbars and acoustics and the needs of the procession to extend condolences".
