A medical team at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital in Karbala has succeeded in a complex operation to modify the deviation of the spine of a 15-year-old boy.
Wael Kassem, a specialist in neurosurgery at the hospital, said,"We have successfully repaired a severe deviation in the spine of a 15-year-old boy, resulting a stress on his spinal cord and caused the onset of spastic paralysis of the lower extremities, and became unable to move with difficulty in balance during recent months.
He added," We adjusted the deviation of the spine and freed the spinal cord completely, and followed a special method and mechanism for such cases, and the operation was complex and required the use of two microscopes and spinal cord monitoring, "stressing that"the patient did not have any complications, and that the next day he was able to move his limbs better than before, and he needs a rehabilitation process and physiotherapy."
Qasem called on the parents of children with symptoms of spinal deviation to show them to the competent doctors quickly and not to delay their treatment, stressing that "early diagnosis is the most important factor in the success of the treatment of such cases and the patient avoids the operation or greatly reduces its risks".
